It uses music that shifts between both your ears to help you relax and focus on physical sensations in your body as opposed to emotions and thoughts. Once you have "anchored" your perception in a part of your body that feels comfortable you then try to superimpose it over the unpleasant feeling you might have in a different part of your body.
